Unit Outline
In this unit, we will be reading and deconstructing traditional fairy tales, taken from Hans Christian Anderson and The Grimm Brothers.
Through this we will create a deeper understanding of the purpose of fairytales and the techniques that are used to present a certain view to the audience. Students will recieve a booklet, with all the traditional stories that will be studied, and will also be able to access them here if the booklet is lost, or left at school. Later in the course we will also be covering 'untraditional' fairy tales, such as those by Roald Dahl, as a medium in which to compare and contrast. These will be provided in class, as well as uploaded to this Wiki, for student use. A terminology page will be available for student to fill out as we proceed through the course, to help them understand what each term, phrase or word means, and how it can be applied to fairytales.
Fairy tales from the Grimm Brothers include; Rapunzel, Cinderella, The Six Swans.Little Red Cap.
And from Hans Christian Anderson; The Little Mermaid, Goldilocks and the Three Beras.
Those these tarditional Fairy tales will be a main focus of this unit we will also be looking at different work from Roald Dahl, James Finn Garner, Barbara G. Walker, as well as viewing a few Disney films of the fairy tales we have studied to compare and contrast.
Through all of this we will discover the traditional fairy tales, and how society has changed them. This will be presented in a number of various mediums. The main ICT components we will focus on will be powerpoint presentations, the interactive whiteboard in particular the MIMIO studio work and some YouTube and internet sites and videos throughout the course. These ICT components will aid in your understanding of ICT and help you to better visualize and comprehend the different aspects of a text beyond simply the written aspect. The overall intergration of ICT in the course, also helps the students to understand that ICT isn't just for their home lives, but can also inhance their learning, and make a 'dull' subject, more interactive and enjoyable. it also gives them an opportunity to showcase thier work in a different medium, than a written final product.
